baby opening Amazon welcome box

AmazonOpens a new window is one of the retailers that offer a welcome box as a baby registry perk, and Amazon says the box is worth $35, thanks to all of the freebies like diapers and wipes in it.

It's a pretty sweet deal to get baby products for free. The tricky part is knowing how to actually claim it, since you do have to jump through a few hoops to have one sent to you. We broke it down for you so the process is as simple as possible.

How to get your free Amazon baby registry welcome box

  1. Make sure you have an active Amazon Prime membership, as you have to be a Amazon Prime member to be eligible for the free gift. Aren't a member of Amazon Prime yet? Sign up now for a 30-day free trial.Opens a new window
  2. Start an Amazon baby registryOpens a new window. This process goes pretty quickly since you'll already have input a lot of your info when you became a Prime member – but you'll have to add in details like your due date, the address you want gifts shipped to, and your sharing settings. (Hint: If you want to use BabyCenter's Registry BuilderOpens a new window to manage all of your registries in one place, you'll want to select "public.")
  3. Add at least 10 items from your checklist. When you start your Amazon baby registry, you get a checklist of recommended items. You just have to add at least 10 items from this list to your registry.
  4. Make sure at least $10 is purchased and shipped from your registry. Keep in mind that you don't have to be the one to spend $10 – since this is a baby registry and people will presumably be buying you gifts, a friend or family member could be the one to purchase any non-gift card item(s) off of your registry. Or you could make that first purchase if you'd like! One important thing to remember: The order has to actually ship before you can request your box. This causes confusion for a lot of parents-to-be!
  5. Click the “claim now” button that appears on the “Benefits and Welcome Box” page once you've done all of the above. This will add the welcome box to your cart. When you go to check out, make sure to select the box next to “use your $35.00 Promotional balance." Otherwise, you’ll get charged for the box. Note that only customers in the continental U.S. can receive the box.

Amazon keeps the exact contents of the box under wraps, in part because they're always subject to change. That said, one BabyCenter mom who recently got an Amazon welcome box said hers included:

  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • A lactation-boosting drink mix
  • Prenatal gummies
  • Baby laundry detergent
  • Diaper rash ointment
  • Baby bath wash
  • A onesie
  • A burp cloth
  • A 4-ounce bottle
  • A pacifier
  • Some coupons

Other items that might be included are breast milk storage bags, hats, mittens, and socks, or hand sanitizer. These boxes are a great way to try out brands your baby might – or might not – like before you commit to buying them or adding them to your registry.

Once you've set up your Amazon baby registry and ordered your free welcome box, don't forget to link your Amazon registry to Registry BuilderOpens a new window so that you can manage all of your registries in one place for easy sharing.
